On the cards

Today I was reading on Reuters online about a lass called Indy Mellink, she is a Dutch card fan and was explaining a game to her cousins last summer when she asked herself: why should a king be worth more than a queen?

The 23-year-old forensic psychology graduate, encouraged by her father, decided it was time to break with the centuries-old tradition of sexual inequality in playing card decks that rank men above women.

“If we have this hierarchy that the king is worth more than the queen then this subtle inequality influences people in their daily life because it’s just another way of saying ‘hey, you’re less important,” she said in an interview. “Even subtle inequalities like this do play a big role.”

So apparently now after a lot of trial and error, she designed a genderless deck in which the images of a king, queen and jack were replaced with gold, silver and bronze.

After a few months, she had sent out around 1,500 pack as she has started selling online

I am just wondering what will be the next target for “wokeness”

Perhaps chess but it’s a woman(symbolic) that is the most powerful piece which is the Queen.

The Queen is more powerful than the King although I don’t see men going crazy with woke eagerness to make the pieces on a chess board ore “gender fluid” or gender free.

But the there will be some who consider it’s the Queen that does all the work whilst the fat king wobbles around one square at a time trying to not get caught and the game only ends when king is mated so the woke bridge may have something to say about this and some wee self-righteous virtue signaller similar to our wee Indy Mellink of the cards ab  above may consider consider it’s time for a change for this old game .... but then again if someone has such energy perhaps it could be put to better use by encouraging people not to be so weak-minded and triggered by every little thing they don't like,  It is sad how people like her seem to think human beings are too stupid to differentiate real life from fun and games, and that our thoughts need to be policed.
